I've been kind of lurking here for a couple of weeks now, and I decided it was time to say hi.
I'm 19, but I'm going to be 20 next week and as a birthday gift to me I decided to sign myself up for some ballet classes. I did a little ballet when I was younger with my best friend, but became more interested in the horse riding lessons I was taking at the time and pursued that instead. So now I'm a riding instructor, and a university student, and I'm rediscovering some old interests. After a lot of looking I found an 18+ beginner ballet class not too far from me, it starts on the 17th of September, and I'm a little nervous. I only remember some basic stuff from my childhood, hopefully I won't make a fool of myself!
Anyway, I'm really glad I found this community, it'll be nice to talk to people without feeling talked down to.

August 28th, 2008: The talented Andrea Heins sent me a song she wrote inspired by one of my earlier comics, about declaring parts of your life non-canon. The song is called "Non Canon" and I listened to it with a big grin on my face, especially with lines like "I will declare your lack of passion for me: non-canon." You can listen to the song on her MySpace page here: if the song doesn't play automatically, click on "Non Canon" in the song list. Her other songs are really good too!
Also I want to link to Nedroid because these are some totally sweet comics that deserve all the praise in the world. I keep re-reading this one in particular and I think I want to be - like, living in this comic or something. What I'm saying is I like it you guys
Also, I'm probably gonna' keep the Random Fandom Sparkly Fun Meme at the top of my jounral page from now on so people can post whenever they want ^^ It cheers me up no end just looking at it and all the cool stuff! And I think other people might feel the same? And people can keep posting whenever they want to, whenever they need to spread a little Sparkly Fun to the world!!!

Now I have to go buy last minute supplies (like books!! I haven't read anything for fun that wasn't on the internet for ages! XD) and finish packing. Once the initial madness of getting to Japan is over, I'm going to go to an onsen resort and just spend a couple of days completely relaxing. :3

Alien Loves Predator is not necessarily over. I did literally say it was "coming to an end", but that was mostly because I was tired of waffling and dicking you around. I don't really wanna stop doing it but it bugged me to go on "hiatus" again. But if that's what we need to call it instead of shutting down altogether, then yeah, ok. I'll try to keep doing a new aLp update every once in a while because it's actually still fun. I just need a bit of a break from it.
In terms of IYSS... for those of you who love it and those of you who hate it: I really have no idea where I'm going with it. I mostly just wanted to have somewhere I can draw or write or take a piss with no rules. And right now it feels great, like I just put on a pair of boxers for the first time instead of briefs. Or like I'm having sex without a condom? Or any number of metaphors involving my genitals! Anyway, I'm still finding my way, still learning how to draw, still figuring out what kind of stuff I want to write about, and I'm havin' a blast. I dunno where it's all going, but I really appreciate that there's so many of you comin' along for the ride.
Thanks, that's all for now, rock onwards.
Alright. That's enough random thought for now.

This picture makes me laugh. A lot.
Here is a list of things I like about Texas/Houston.
-the public defense system. Rather than having a public defenders office, Houston "contracts" out its public defense work to private attorneys. So, any attorney in Houston can put their name on a list and be appointed to represent an indigent client. I think this is great because it alleviates the problem of the over worked and under funded public defenders office.
-Canino's. It's a cross between a farmers' market and the most ghetto grocery store you've ever been in. It's good produce cheap.
-Memorial Park. Unlike a lot of urban parks, a concrete structure is not the focal point of this park (at least, not the part I go to). It has miles of dirt paths on which you can almost forget you are in a city.
-cheaper gas than most of the rest of the country.
-almost every mall has an ice skating rink.
-Half Price Books.
-Good ethnic restaurants and grocery stores.
Yes, the list is short. But I really need to focus on the positive.

I am a little nervous about going back, though. I have a mental health disability that can make things challenging; plus, my former medications caused massive weight gain as a side effect. I hope that I won't look too foolish among a bunch of slim, able-bodied young twentysomethings. Not that I should care all that dearly what a small group of complete strangers thinks of me, I know, but- still, I just hope I'll do all right with the class.

August 22nd, 2008: Guys I made a new shirt! Actually I've been working on this for a while and it's finally done. It is a very fancy, classy and colourful shirt that is awesome AND ridiculous. Check it out! EXTREME!!
Combined with Mr. Tusks, below, I believe I can keep you and yours well-clothed from at least the waist up this fall season. You can visit the shoppe here!
Today marks the day when former Secretary of State, Bainbridge Colby, certified the ratification of the nineteenth amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. After centuries of struggle, this was one of the first important steps in the equalizing of the female citizen to the male counterpart. This marked the first opportunity when women could become legitimate citizens in their own government. We could not make the laws, yet we were forced to follow them. We were not tried by our peers, because women could not serve on juries. Women were taxed without representation. "It's unconscionable, not to mention unconstitutional."
These women fought, and they fought hard. Always within their rights, they were tried. It was a hard road to follow, and they did. They succeeded after decades of trying. This economic and political call for reform worked. And it continues to work today, even if it isn't to the ideal bar that I set for women today. But there is good happening in the world today, and sometimes it is good for the soul to remember that. To remember what our ancestors struggled through and overcame for our good. And for the good of tomorrow.
There is so much more for women to fight for. And it is our fight so that the woman of tomorrow has one less evil in the world. So that there is one less tortured soul. We fight for all women. And our voices will never be silenced. Failure is impossible.

"We are called the Iron Jawed Angels. Is that supposed to be an insult? Oh, and Carrie Catt told the Times that we were no better than anarchists and draft dodgers."
