"I am the heart that you call home"

K8 Subaru's sexy legs
I have determined that the point of semantic competition between "ghost" and "spirit" was mostly the turn of the 15th century (insofar as it has stopped (it hasn't really)).

I have also begun to wonder whether my text bundle is all-inclusive, ie will I have to pay through the nose for texting [info]avatar1983 internationally for the next 3 weeks? I hope not, and have some reason to expect not, but I worry.

I know I don't really have the time not to do it, but because I changed gears (slightly) on my work plan today (after getting an additional fifty words written), I feel like having gone through my OED printoffs to find out that 5 contemporary authors (Wyclif, Chaucer, Trevisa, Mandeville and Lydgate) seem to be the ONLY quoted authors who used both words (at least in quotable settings: this is the issue with the OED for this kind of thing you see) is enough for today. I know, I know...it's not really. But it's also nearly 2am and there's basically no brain left in my head.

I know I said this yesterday (and the day before), but tomorrow I'll get it all done. I have to! I'm nearly out of time between me and Tuesday O_o;

In other news, reimagining bands is fun. Kanjani8 should totally make a foray into bluegrass/jugband territory; I think it would suit them. And I have become strangely fascinated (in the last several hours) with the idea of Hina/Maru, and may lose some additional study time in the near future conducting related research...

Propeller (the song no-one except me likes XD) is a sort of country-ish song! I can imagine Subaru having a go at that on his banjo, shirt off and running around in true bluegrass fashion!

Sadly Hina/Maru in fandom is so rare! There's barely any fic at all... but when it comes to canon, there's loads! :D Especially in Recommen where Maru comes to pick him up at the end of the show. XD And the 47 backstage, of course! I shall see what I can dig out! ;D

My brain gave up the ghost too. When the paper I was trying to read used the word "apocope" I knew it was going to win, and I was defeated. D:

Ahahahaha I think we should write a letter to them suggesting this XD

Also boo! People should write Hina/Maru so I can procrastinate drool conduct research! I don't want to have to take filling the gap on myself (what with all this free time coming up after 1 September...)

!! That word is totally cheating. D: I had to look it up just now. There's only so much the poor brain can take at a time. ;_;

I don't know what you mean by semantic competition (I can hazard a guess...?), but this kind of reminded me of a paper I wrote in undergrad about language and translation wherein I learned that the word "spirit" had over 20 distinct meanings....I thought it was interesting, though maybe not worth sharing.

That's pretty cool, actually. I'd believe that, after the 36-page entry the OED gave me, though I wonder how closely-related meanings can be before they get split apart - some of these separate sense seem pretty nitpicky O_o;

Also, basically what I mean by semantic competition is that both terms could mean the same thing (which is sort of still true, but this is when it started, basically) so authors' choices will show evolving preference etc... At least that's my theory :D

That's kind of what I guessed. Neat. Yay. I miss you.

Eran's applying to Sheffield. How much longer will you be there?

I miss you, too! I'll graduate in January, but I'll be here for at least two years after that - the current system allows me to switch to a 2-year work visa after I finish my MA, so I figure I'll start with that and work from there...I really like it here, so I totally support the possibility of you guys coming, too!
